About Me

My name is Jonathan Gleason and I am currently a fourth year mathematics and physics major at the University of Chicago.

The Origin of My Interests

Even when I was real little, I would continually question the world around me, with a particular emphasis on the question of "why". As I grew older, I increasingly developed a desire to explain things in more fundamental ways. I wanted to be able to explain phenomena from a small set of uncontestable assumptions. Eventually, I was exposed to the notion of a mathematical proof and it was then that I realized that it was the concept proof that I had been seeking all along.

Although I remained fascinated with the beauty of mathematics, I was even more interested in the explanation of nature, and in particular, explanations of nature whose level of rigor was characteristic of mathematics. The same desire that led me to demand rigorous proof, the desire to explain things from a small set of uncontestable assumptions, eventually led me to pursure an understanding of nature at the most fundamental of levels. Eventually, perhaps when I was 15, I decided that I would dedicate my life to the understanding of nature at the most fundamental of levels with a level of rigor that is standard of modern mathematics.

Other Interests

Although admittedly I spend most of my times pursuing my academic interests, inside the classroom or otherwise, I do have several other interests and hobbies. My other interests include computer science, statistics, chemistry, economics, languages and linguistics (I amm currently in the process of (slowly) learning Mandarin), game development, and web development.
