I'm a sixth year Medical Physics graduate student in the Division of Biological Sciences. I did my undergraduate work in physics at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. My undergraduate thesis was done on the construction of a magneto-optical trap for the cooling and trapping of 87Rb atoms. My thesis advisor was Danielle A. Braje. We successfully trapped atoms at 5am on April 29th, 2006.

Currently, I am doing research in tomosynthesis with Bob Nishikawa and Ingrid Reiser. My goal is to optimize tomosynthesis acquisition systems for computer-aided diagnosis. I recently wrote a grant proposal, which was funded by the DOD Breast Cancer Research Program. Also, I won the cum laude poster award at the 2008 SPIE Medical Imaging conference in San Diego for my poster entitled "Microcalcification detectability in tomosynthesis."

My hope for the future is to study Boron Neutron Capture Theory or Therapy (BNCT). Sadly, the U.S. government has decided to reduce* funding for BNCT, so after obtaining my Ph.D., I see myself moving to another country that does study it. Come visit me in Russia or Japan! (7 Dec 2010 update: Questionable. I think I want to do research to bridge the gap between genetics and medical physics. One would probably call this molecular imaging. Possibly I want to work on efficiency. Bill Gates told me I should try to make technology cheaper instead of marginally better.)
