~ J.’s Music Want List ~

{ Last Updated on March the 31st, 2008. }

~ Hi, there ~

You’ve somehow stumbled across my stupid Want List.

The majority of this stuff isn’t particularly rare, unusual, or hard-to-find —

I posted this mainly to have a convenient reminder of what I’m looking for,

easily accessible from anywhere I might find myself

in the position of being able to do some record shopping.

~ Nonetheless ~

Do you have anything on this list that you’d be willing to part with?

Especially some of the more off-beat shit? Drop me a line, then!

Jniimi {at} gmail {dot} com

I’m down for buying, trading, indentured servitude – it’s all good.

(To the various folks who’ve contacted me via this page over the past year or so

with records to sell – a big hearty thanks, again. Definitely keep in touch!)

(I’ve also heard from a few folks who, in Google-ing their old band,

came across my list and subsequently emailed me, just to say howdy.

These are the best e-mails of all. So, don’t be shy, aging ex-rock folk!)

Best Regards,

J.

August Sons – Vampyre 3:30 / I Am Not a Vampyre LP (Eyes in the Woods) Wiggin, MS '89 / You Taste So Good To Me 3:17 (own label NR-18010) Mississippi '89 [?] “The August Sons came from Wiggin, Mississippi, where they made a scant 92 copies of their single (Homework #104) and 200 copies of their LP (Homework #10). Though they could only afford 100 covers, which they hand-decorated with $20-worth of fake blood. Sounds like a classic Homework story, but they're not quite as obscure as all that. Through most of the '80s leader/audio gear-head Jerry Scruggs was a studio-jockey in an elaborately tricked-out 18-wheeler studio, while he played on the side with the 'Sons. The August Sons were to have been one of Homestead's first signings, and they toured and played CBGB and Max's (while staying in Bensonhurst during the 1984 riots). But the LP never happened and Jerry went back to the studio. There's a 1995 CD called Plants, Planets and Insects.”

Coil [Coilans] (Threshold House, 2006) [2006 repressing. Amazing new creation from Coil (operating as COILANS), issued by their Threshold House imprint (now based in Thailand). Various soundpieces by Jhonn Balance solo, Balance and Ossian Brown, Peter Christopherson solo, Thighpaulsandra solo, Ivan Pavlo solo and Balance and Pavlov together. All recorded in Russia using the the ANS synthesizer (which was used by Edward Artemiev for the soundtrack to Tarkovsky's Solaris. Mindblowing minimalist drone, packaged to perfection -- one of the greatest Coil-related releases to date! "Package is boxed like Soliloquy for Lilith with a full color cover. The package contains 3 audio CDs and a DVD (all-region, NTSC) plus a 2 page foldout of information. All the audio was recorded by Coil last year in Moscow on the ANS -- an optomechanical synthesizer / sound machine designed in the 1930s and built by Russian space scientists in the 1950s -- as far as we know it is the only one of its kind in the world. The music is a series of VERY MINIMAL drone pieces somewhat reminiscent of theTime Machines album. The DVD contains a collection of 4 abstract visual animations by Peter Christoperson, inspired / triggered by selections from the album.]

[Pandemonium were part of the ‘holy three’ from the early eighties Holland Hardcore scene… LARM, BGK and PANDEMONIUM. The band existed from 1981-1986. Included are their impossible to find classic records: ‘Wir fahren ins Grune’ 7 (1985), ‘wir fahren gegen dreck’ LP (1984), ‘who the fuck are you’ 7 (1983), ‘Are you the one that is fucking…’ LP (1986) plus as a bonus unreleased songs from 1982 and video footage of their last show. Rudimentary Peni & Steve Albini – unreleased recordings (1988?)

[While Nick Blinko was recovering in a mental hospital, the rhythm section of R. Peni eventually got restless, and hatched this plan to track drums & bass for some songs in a studio in England, and then send the multi-track master tape to Steve to overdub his guitar parts over it and mix the whole thing In his basement studio. I heard one or two tracks from it – In Steve’s house; he played it for me – and they were so fuckin’ great! Never formally released; hardly even out given out to his pals, it seems, or a boot would’ve surfaced by now. I think Steve considers it a lark and not worth publically releasing it.  I had one friend with a cassette copy, but he refused to dub it for me because he had promised Steve he would keep it under his hat.]
